Flat

Of the 5 bikes currently in use in this household, the hardest one to change went flat. The rear tire on my Xtracycle "Truk" was dead flat, after a short run up to Walgreens on Sunday. Glad it happened at home and not out on the road, because it is a genuine pain the the ass to get that rear tire off, especially with the super fat Schwalbe Big Apple tires, fenders, and v-brakes. No speed records were set in the garage today!

I'm super happy it didn't happen while I was out riding it. That would have been extra horrible when you had to leave work to come find me and fix it. lol

What caused the flat? I've had great luck with the Big Apples... I rode over a roofing nail a couple weeks ago and didn't get a flat. The nail stuck into the rubber but didn't get through to the tube. I'm curious what got to yours.

The tire is fine without any signs of damage. I couldn't find any obvious punctures in the tube either. The tube is pretty old and had some slime goo in it. I'm suspecting the valve is all gunked up and started leaking. I'll do an autopsy on the tube later this week to confirm.
